Installing new exterior doors can improve both the appearance and functionality of a home, but even well-planned projects can present unexpected challenges.

Recently, a homeowner hired us to install a new set of French doors for their building. When the doors arrived with measurements that differed from the original expectations (three inches too small!), our team adapted the installation plan on-site. We ensured that the final installation looked beautiful and delivered the functionality the homeowner envisioned.

Our client was ready to upgrade their building with a new set of French doors, but like many renovation projects, everything appeared straightforward... until the materials arrived.

After delivery, it became apparent that the doors were not the thickness originally expected. While this type of issue can create delays or require reordering materials, we have been carpenters for a very long time. We knew exactly what to do.

The Craftsmen Solution

Rather than allowing the unexpected sizing difference to slow down the project, our team adjusted the installation in the field.

After carefully fitting the doors, we installed the exterior trim and secured the door casing to the extension jambs using recessed stainless steel screws for long-term durability. To create a polished appearance, we plugged the recessed screw locations with color-matched plugs, creating a clean, seamless finish.

One of the homeowner's priorities was ensuring the doors could fully open against the interior wall without obstruction. We intentionally planned and executed the installation to make that possible, maximizing both functionality and usability within the space.
